The incident occurred in Hartford around 6:10 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 11, at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Adelaide Street.
Sgt. Chris Mastroianni of the Hartford Police said Middlesex County resident Tonyque Davis, of the town of Portland, was driving a Jeep SUV when she was hit by a Toyota minivan that fled the scene.
Davis was found unresponsive in the overturned Jeep and was extricated by the Hartford Fire Department and transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Mastroianni said.
Detectives from the HPD Crime Scene Division responded to the scene and assumed control of the investigation.
The investigation quickly developed a suspect operator for the Toyota minivan operator, identified as Clarence Cross, age 45, of Hartford.
He was arrested on Sunday, Aug. 11 on a warrant and charged with:
- Negligent homicide with a motor vehicle
- Evading responsibility involving death
- Reckless driving
- Driving without a license
- Operating an unregistered vehicle
- Driving without insurance
Cross was being held for arraignment.
